Boise Idaho – The City of Trees

Beautiful Boise Idaho:

Boise Idaho is often referred to as the city of trees, it is easy to see why when looking at these photos of the valley. Boise serves as the capital city of Idaho and the county seat of Ada County. The city’s population was 205,671 as of the census taken in 2010, with an estimated population of 223,154 in 2016.

Boise was incorporated in 1863 around the same time as the new Fort Boise was established by the US Army. The new location was chosen due to its proximity to a major road connecting the major communities Boise Basin, where Idaho City is today,  and the Silver City mining areas. The original Fort Boise had been established by Hudson’s Bay Company in the 1830s and was 40 miles downriver near the confluence of the Boise River and the Snake River and close to where Parma Idaho is today.

Lewiston Idaho was the original capital of the Idaho Territory, but following the creation of the Montana Territory in 1866,  Boise was made the capital of the now much smaller Idaho Territory.
